A variety of commonly used media support the growth of Vmax™. However, due to the strain’s origins as a marine bacterium, Vmax™ cultures grow best in osmotically rich media with higher salt concentrations. For optimal growth, we recommend Vmax™ Enriched Growth Media. This nutritionally rich, osmotically enhanced, media allows for rapid and robust growth of Vmax™ cultures.
Vmax™ X2 Chemically Competent Cells
Vmax™ X2 is a novel, fast-growing bacterial strain designed and optimized for high-level recombinant protein expression. Vmax™ cells are derived from the fast-growing, gram-negative, non-pathogenic marine bacterium, Vibrio natriegens. With a doubling time twice that of E. coli and the ability to generate greater amounts of biomass per volume of cells, Vmax Express results in larger amounts of soluble protein faster.
Vmax™ X2 is compatible with plasmids and antibiotics commonly used with bacterial expression systems such as E. coli BL21(DE3) and has a transformation efficiency rivaling the best alternative bacterial expression strains.
Built with a tightly controlled, IPTG-inducible T7 promoter system, Vmax™ X2 cells can be cultured using routine growth medium, as well as commercial auto-induction media, or our Vmax™ Enriched Growth Media (recommended for rapid growth and greatest accumulation of biomass). In addition, Vmax cells can be induced over a wide range of timepoints, from an OD600 of 0.2 to over 1.0, without a loss of final protein yield, dramatically increasing workflow flexibility.

Vmax™ Chemicompetent cell recovery media is specially formulated for recovery of Vmax™ cells.
This media is specially formulated to establish the proper ionic and nutritional environment to allow recovery of Vmax™ cells after heat shock or electroporation.
